Packaging Engineer - Cosmetics / Pharmaceutical / Food

Position Description:
Plans and directs activities concerned with design and development of protective packaging containers by performing the following duties:
Directs the design, development and validation of packaging components and processes. Responsible for all package engineering activities to support the Company. Review and evaluate current and new packaging concepts and technologies.
Creative skills will need to be balanced with strong knowledge of associated materials and their costs.
Will work closely with cross functional internal and external teams such as; product development, regulatory, supply chain, graphic design and supplier management.
Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling and safety requirements, and type of materials required for container.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects with focus on respective priorities.
Consults with company marketing, sales, supply chain and 3rd party manufacturers.
Develops or directs development of sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval.
Knowledge and experience with specific topics such as shelf life stability, cushioning, labeling regulations, distribution testing, project management, quality management, packaging machinery, tamper-evident methods, and recycling.
Requirements:
B.A., MS or B.S. degree (Science/technical background a plus).
5-7 years experience in package engineering.
Bar coding experience a plus.
Hands on experience with thermal printers and printer software a plus.
Experience with specialty medical, pharma or cosmetic packaging programs a plus.
Software knowledge: Solidworks and Illustrator software desired. Photoshop and Quark Express strongly desired.
Compensation:
$70,000 - $90,000 Estimated Annual Salary
